Review 2024
Global equities gained just under 25% in 2024, surpassing the 20% gain in 2023. A surprisingly strong US economy, interest rate cuts by central banks and technological innovations were the main drivers. Bonds also held their own, even if the small increase was somewhat smaller than in the previous year. The high base interest rate, supplemented by price gains on the shorter maturities, was able to more than compensate for the price losses on the longer maturities.
